Stain
Stain

70 x 21 cm
oil and enamel on board
2010

This painting was part of my course-work for my Master of Fine Arts degree. I'm interested in our relationship to images and I scoured the internet for pictures that were manipulated in some way. The internet source reference for the painting (above) displayed both the original image as well as the photoshopped final (having a person removed from the image) It seems to be an attempt to alter history. I then reproduced both images with household enamel paint and oils. Trying for a photographic attribute in my hand rendering of the subject matter, rather than photorealism as a painting technique. I titled the painting 'Stain' as both images in juxtaposition feel charged with melancholy and loss to me.
