Semicolon - Unlimited Potential Real Estate, Herne Bay  & Foenander Gallery (group exhibition)

A New Zealand Health Survey released in 2020 found that one in six New Zealand adults had been diagnosed with a common mental disorder at some point in his/her life, including depression, bipolar disorders and anxiety disorders. Nearly 9% of adults had experienced psychological distress in the past four weeks.

In September this year following Mental Health Awareness Week – Föenander Galleries, in conjunction with Lifeline, will host an off site exhibition in Herne Bay at the Unlimited Potential Real Estate office.
The exhibition will talk to Mental Health and be centred on the brief: 'Semicolon'.

When used in writing the semicolon is an opportunity for a story to continue rather than end. This message has been transposed as a symbol in the mental health world defining itself as "dedicated to presenting hope and love for those who are struggling with mental illness, suicide, addiction and self-injury", and "exists to encourage, love and inspire".

title: I Am an Island

size: 800 x 800mm

medium: pencil and oil on board

Here is the painting I will be exhibiting, the above image will be updated as the painting progresses. The finished artwork will remain at the drawing stage for the house; a pencil drawing of a villa house upon a small idyllic island. For me, the island is the individual, the letterbox a fixed address; me. The house is what we make of ourselves, our dreams and aspirations.

There will be over 32 artworks on display
