An imagined scene of the last of the New Zealand native birds migrating across a vast sky to find a new home. Our birds are leaving and they're taking their luggage with them (suitcase stickers state: 'No Plan B' and 'Rapture' - which is upside down). Birds shown are: Kokako, Grey Heron and being carried due to the fact that it can't fly, the Kiwi. The threat of loss is portrayed by the eternal, horizonless sky with no landing place (none that is depicted) but with a hope for the future in the majestically coloured clouds - a dream state, a whimsy but also an aspiration for a better life. View “In Flight” for the companion piece to this artwork.

On a dry summers day, a sheep farmer is seen walking with his dog, herding his sheep down the rural back roads of New Zealand. The title hints at a final destination for the sheep - something large is approaching off on the horizon.

One of the few island works depicting two of the same species of bird, they perch upon the red roof of a classic villa. The lawns are beautifully landscaped and hidden within the undergrowth is a Tuatara

An early work from my farm series - this monochromatic artwork displays the scene of some kind of an altercation with all the onlookers curious as to what has happened.

A couple of farmers wait out a herd of black cattle on a rural road (the rush hour). The farm dog uses his ‘strong-eye’ to keep moving the cows in the right direction. View ‘Morning Drove’ for more cows or ‘Roads end’ for sheep

The coat is laser-cut corten steel (also called weathered steel). This steel is often used to make shipping containers as when it oxidizes it creates a protective oxide film on the metals surface, this slows down any future corrosion underneath. This self portrait is another work along the theme of self protection against scrutiny or intrusion. The rusting of the coat creates a tarnished look, mimicking an old well-worn coat.

Exhibited: Oilskin Armour, oil on steel with laser-cut corten steel, 2007, sold

Seachange is the ability to alter course, to make a substantial change in perspective as a society. In this work, the sunlight strikes the far horizon - better days are maybe ahead if we can negotiate our current times. The Bethells Beach Surf Lifesaving Patrol station with the single flag (swim between the flags campaign) signifies an unassured safety as there is no other visible flag to coordinate with. A pair of Northern Royal Albatross sit on a nest, they usually mate for life and represent my family. The graffiti are signs of out current epoch: The 6th extinction seems to be upon our wildlife. 2001 a Space Odyssey is a film about a computer(AI) taking over. 2+2=5 is a quote from 1984 about psychological manipulation. Fahrenheit 451 is about book burning (the control of knowledge).

A fun caricature from the country with 26 million plus sheep. I enjoyed adding a few little details; the docking ring on the cow skin table (probably removed before getting in), the Spring daffodil wallpaper and hoof footed bathtub - a fun commission.

This painting is part of an ongoing beach series exploring the enjoyment of life’s simple pleasures. The reader, immersed in her book, is oblivious to the heightened tension of the windswept trees, being released by the stationary washing hanging upon the line.
